Humanitarian Assistance

The Lockheed Martin Hybrid Airship is uniquely designed to provide service to remote areas around the world.  The air cushion landing system (ACLS) developed by Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® allows the airship to land nearly anywhere.  The airship’s flexible cargo bay can accommodate a variety of cargo to support health outreach and disaster-relief programs worldwide.

According to the World Health Organization, half the world has little or no access to radiology (x-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI).  The Lockheed Martin Hybrid Airship, with heavy-lift capability and the ability to land virtually anywhere, can deliver medical equipment and assistance to populations that are medically underserved, remote, or limited by poor access to conventional transportation infrastructure.  According to Dr. Daniel Mollura, Founder of RAD-AID International, "The hybrid [airship] represents a new era for 21st century global health outreach, enabling medical personnel and advanced technologies to reach marginalized populations that are separated from conventional infrastructure.”
